Stay Financially Safe Through The Festive Season

Finances: we’re at the time of the year where they can become a little bit of a nightmare.

There are a few issues that can become overwhelming in the festive season. First, there’s the problem with heating and hot water bills. If you live in a climate where winter hits hard like say, anywhere in the UK, you’ll find heating bills rise. It’s impossible not to face an uptick in energy bills if you want your home to stay cosy during the winter months. Then, there’s the problem of Christmas itself. Parents were shocked and appalled when they found high street sellers had pushed up the cost of the must have Christmas gift this year. That’s the Hatchimal and it’s currently on sale at just over 120 pounds. It’s retail price is about half that. So, how can you keep ahead of these problems and avoid them killing your Christmas spirit?

Don’t Miss Those Letters

You will often find that money problems come through in the post. Unfortunately, they can get lost in the junk and end up being trashed. It’s quite common for important money notices to just be discarded by homeowners. Or, put to one side and then slowly, but surely, be forgotten. If you want to avoid that, you just need to make sure you have a notice boards in your home. You can buy one from a notice boards shop, and they are rather brilliant. Once you get a letter about money in the post, you can pin it to the noticeboard. That way, you’ll never forget it. Once the problem has been sorted or resolved, you can take it down and store it away.

We also recommend that you invest in a filing cabinet. You do want to make sure that you keep a copy of any letters related to money. It’s quite common for companies to make mistakes about these and some may end up billing you twice. If you want to avoid this, you’ll have to make sure you keep a copy of the original letter.

Look For Ways To Save

There are always ways to save money on your energy. For instance, you might have recently received a notice from your energy company about smart meters. Smart meters allow you to accurately and easily keep a check on energy being used in your home. Without a smart meter, energy bills are estimated. This can result in people being overbilled for expenses. With a smart meter you can make sure you’re paying as little as possible for your energy.

Avoid Borrowing Where Possible

If at all possible, you should avoid borrowing money to spend what you don’t have. This is a dangerous road and the slope can become slippery all too quickly. You might start with a small amount of credit on a card. But before too long you’re using a short-term loan to pay for a holiday. To avoid this, it’s best to not borrow at all.

We hope you find this advice helpful for dealing with any financial issues that you might encounter at home.
